Occasionally my frame rate plummets to zero for brief moments. When I checked with GPU-Z, my GPU usage hit 0%, fans stopped spinning, and power output dropped to around 15 watts—only in Fortnite since early February or March. I've reinstalled Windows, used two different 5500 XT graphics cards, a 2060 model, and two distinct PSUs. Could it be my motherboard that's causing the problem?

Fortnite performance on HDD versus SSD depends on file fragmentation. Heavy fragmentation can cause stuttering when loading assets, especially on a 5200RPM drive. This issue appears specific to Fortnite. If not Windows-related, check GPU or PSU; otherwise, the problem might lie with the motherboard, though it’s unusual for it to affect only that game.

It’s running on the SSD. I’ll test the card in another PCIe slot tomorrow—could be the problem. Still odd, since it only occurs with Fortnite.
