Hi there, I've finished setting up my first system. After installing Windows 11, I wanted to ensure all drivers were current before wrapping up. I didn't install any drivers myself—just checked for updates and let Windows handle it. My CPU is Intel 13700k, GPU is Gigabyte 4090, PSU is Corsair rm1000x.

Yesterday, when I powered on the system and went into BIOS, the fans started spinning while my GPU was on. After finishing the build and updating Windows, the fans stopped completely. I saw online that this could happen if the GPU only uses fans under heavy load. In Task Manager, only my Intel graphics card appears, not the dedicated GPU. To confirm the GPU is working, I was advised to check the Nvidia Control Panel, but it doesn’t seem installed on my PC. Should I download it? That might be confusing since I’m new.

When I turned on and off the system, the GPU briefly flashed white. I read that this could indicate a power issue, though the light didn’t stay on long. I use 3 PCIe cables with daisy chains—only one chain fills the fourth slot of the adapter. My monitor is connected via DisplayPort, so I still think the GPU functions but wonder if the CPU’s Intel graphics could be handling it if the connection is direct.

What should I do next? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! My 1440p display is stuck at 720p in Windows settings, and I can’t change that. This might be related to the GPU being managed by the CPU instead.

Have you attempted to install drivers by downloading them yourself? Try installing GeForce Experience and NVIDIA Control Panel manually. If it doesn’t appear, search for “NVIDIA control panel not showing” on YouTube. Launch GeForce Experience, download the latest driver, and stress test your GPU to see if it reaches the expected FPS for a 4090.

Ensure the driver for your integrated GPU is removed (there are several methods) or verify the device manager to confirm the 4090 is recognized as a connected hardware component.

I put in the programs yesterday and they functioned well afterward. Then I added 3DMark to see if the GPU I sold my kidney for performed its task. Fortunately, it did. It turns out I was just nervous about installing the drivers manually. Thank you for your assistance!

Initially the device wasn't listed in Device Manager, but once I installed the drivers manually it appeared. Now I'm able to use my GPU for League of Legends (jk). Since I didn't want a fireplace instead of a PC, I double-checked the connections between the card, cables, and adapter.

Begin your mainboard page, download all necessary drivers, and keep the latest BIOS updates handy. After assembly, a fresh, up-to-date system is essential. Windows updates may take some time before drivers are refreshed, but improvements are being made. Past issues have included drivers that frequently failed, so it’s wise to obtain the most recent versions from your mainboard vendor.
