I recently purchased a Wi-Fi card and didn’t realize how large my RTX 3060 Ti was. My motherboard is the B450M D3SH v1, and I’m wondering if upgrading it would help. Would a bigger motherboard solve this issue? If yes, what models should I consider?

If the Wi-Fi card is a single slot, it makes sense to use a device designed for the X16 slot instead of trying to fit it into the smaller 1x slot. This way you get better performance and compatibility.

You can install a PCIe X1 riser cable and mount the wireless card outside the main board area, at the bottom of the enclosure, into those empty slots. Choose a riser cable with minimal thickness. For instance, this model features a right angle (the cable emerges on the right side of the slot, keeping it very slim) : Amazon.com: ADT-Link Dual 90Degree Right Angle PCIe 3.0 x1 to x1 Extension Cable R11SL-TL 8G/BPS High Speed PCI Express 1x Riser Card Ribbon Extender : Electronics The standard length is 10cm, which should suffice, though longer options exist. Another option : Amazon.com: PCIE Extension Cable,PCI-Express 3.0 1X Male to Female Riser Cable PCI-E 1X Extender Adapter Jumper (18cm,90° : Electronics Ensure adequate clearance between the card's heatsink and the slot so the ribbon can bend smoothly; prefer the longer version if possible.) Another example (shorter): Amazon.com: YUPVM PCIE X1 Riser Cable Dual 90 Degree Right Angle PCIe 3.0 X1 to X1 Extension Cable 8Gbps PCI Express 1X Riser Card 5cm black 508848A2 : Electronics You may insert the PCIe X1 card or the riser cable into either the x1 port or the second x16 port (which is electrically x4).

Thanks a lot! I wasn’t aware of this before, I plan to look it up and might need to replace my whole motherboard.
