12TB only showed minor issues until data reached 100 or even 200TB.

Today’s SSDs are built to manage petabytes of data writes. If you install trusted software and the device alerts you about impending failure, you’ll know exactly when it needs attention.

That's remarkable. I've been using this 840 EVO for nearly a year and a half, but the news about its death came from SSD Life in late 2023.

~A decade is reasonable. By then I'm confident a 500GB SSD won't be highly valuable and you might find something superior. (Maybe even a completely different system.) Think about 10 years back — the initial 500GB hard drive cost $500-520. That's more costly than today's 500GB SSDs, and we now have consumer SSDs with 2TB storage.
