I'm currently in a dilemma, either wait for Gen-10th processors (less than a month), which I do plan to overclock to 5Ghz+. Or immediately buy a Ryzen 3800x/3900x and call it a day. What difference in performance am I looking at? I've been out of the PC-building stuff for a while. Also couldn't find many benchmarks of 5Ghz Intels vs Ryzen. Outside of VR, I do all my gaming at 1440p. I don't care about 1080p. Thanks,
Focus on a 3700x and a solid x570 board. Invest heavily in the top-tier graphics card available. 32gb of 3200mt/s RAM will work well, but consider two 16gb modules in CL18. A reliable 650w gold PSU fits the bill. I prefer brands like Corsair with long warranties—they tend to last and support future upgrades. With Ryzen, you won’t need to replace the stock heat sink much. It’s always beneficial for better cooling. Running cooler helps maintain higher frame rates, though it can be hotter and less cost-effective. It depends on whether you're targeting a few frames per second or more. Intel’s performance is decent, but memory speed matters more. High-speed RAM like 4000mt/s or faster is ideal for optimal results. This is where Intel gains an edge on the gaming scene.
Gaming and VR are impressive even at 3600; 3700x is possible if you manage it, though it’s a lot more than necessary. You won’t find 5ghz Intel outperforming AMD since the latter can’t reach that speed.
