Check the OneDrive folder and file properties.
Hello
I use Windows 10.
All the files in the OneDrive folder show a green checkmark.
1.
Do the files with the green checkmark exist both locally and online?
2.
What happens if I "Unlink this PC"?
The files remain in the online OneDrive? Or are they removed from the local folder?
3.
If I download a file via the OneDrive browser, does the "Modified" date stay updated?
If I copy a file from the local OneDrive to another folder, does the "Modified" date stay the same or change?
I’ve tested this on one computer, but what if I have multiple devices?
Computer 1 copies file A to its Windows OneDrive folder.
Computer 2 copies file A from the Windows OneDrive to another local folder—does the "Modified" date stay consistent?
I’m aware the "Created" and "Accessed" dates change during copying, but I want to confirm.
4.
Are the results identical for Windows 11?
Thank you
Did you verify with one drive forums or perform a Google search? Or would you open the drive help menu inside it or use the program? Are you attempting to use this as a mirror installation for another operating system version? I assume you're not sure about your purpose.
I would just like to confirm that my files are properly stored in the OneDrive cloud with a valid backup.
The online guidance about the green checkmark doesn't address exactly what I need.
It's also important to me that my files retain their "Last modified" timestamps.
Thank you
My recommendation is to keep a physical backup on an SSD or Blu-ray disc for your most important data, even with cloud or online backups. You never know when you might lose access or experience an internet outage.
Another question about the topic.
When I open the Windows OneDrive folder, close it, and then reopen it, the file properties show that the "Accessed" timestamp has been changed.
I only opened the folder, not the files themselves.
What could cause this update?
I'm still a beginner in this community, but asking the same question in multiple forums at once is usually seen as poor netiquette.
I'm not sure what the rules are here.

Has anyone attempted this and verified it?
Could confirm if copying a file from the OneDrive folder in Windows to another drive folder changes the “Modified” date?
I’ve only tested it on the same machine.
What about when using two computers?
Computer 1 copies file A into the Windows OneDrive folder.
Computer 2 (another machine) takes file A from the Windows OneDrive folder to a different local folder.
Does the “Modified” date stay the same or update?
