My system details: processor is an Intel Core i5-12600K at 3.7 GHz, equipped with a 10-core chipset and a Cooler Master Hyper 212 cooler (51.88 CFM). The motherboard is MSI PRO Z690-A, supporting DDR4 ATX. RAM is Kingston FURY Beast 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) at 3200 MHz. Storage includes a 1 TB Samsung 870 Evo SSD. The graphics card is an MSI GAMING X GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB VRAM. I purchased all components together from Memory Express, which indicated compatibility. Technicians installed the CPU and RAM for me, so mounting should be fine. When starting the PC, it failed to power on initially. I thought about updating the BIOS, formatting the USB drive to FAT32, installing the latest motherboard firmware, and changing the drive letter to MSI.ROM. After a few minutes of flashing, the system would restart every couple of seconds with a click sound, possibly for thermal protection. I omitted the cooler initially per instructions but later connected it after troubleshooting. The fans operated normally during initial setup. I tested with another RAM stick and verified all connections. The motherboard displayed a red LED continuously. I swapped power supplies and tried different outlets, but the issue persisted across settings. A video of the process during a BIOS update was attached for reference.
I sent it to MemoryExpress after doing everything possible. They removed the CPU and informed me it was an error on their side due to a bent pin in the motherboard. Luckily, they swapped it in with a replacement. UPDATE 2: It turns out the PSU also had problems even though it was new. When I installed the new motherboard, it functioned normally without any CPU indicators. I figured the PSU might be faulty to confirm my concern. I then connected the failing PSU from that machine to this one, and it worked perfectly. Surprisingly, using the PSU that wasn’t working on this computer also resolved the issue. I’m still puzzled by this situation. I had no idea about the PSU or CPU issues at first. It seems my initial assessment was incorrect.
