Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out which MOBO to stick with. Price isn't the main concern here—what matters is how long it lasts and how future-proof it is. Asus Rog Strix B550-A for gaming is around $160. The Gigabyte Arous Pro AC is $140. I've got a few other parts: AMD 5600X, Noctua D15S, Samsung 980 Pro, Corsair venge 16G DDR4 LPX 3200, Antex HCG 760 gold, and a 2K 165z S2721DGF (using the GTX 970 which still works for BF3 and LOL). I don’t plan to overclock much—just a quick one-click OC if needed. The only notable difference I noticed is that Gigabyte’s VRM is a bit better (8 true VRM vs Asus’s 6), and their audio chip is solid, though I’m not sure about the USB 2.0 issue with the Arous Pro AC. My last build was from 2011, so I’m leaning toward reliability over time.
Most of the 500 series boards experienced USB difficulties, which seem to have been resolved via BIOS updates or chipset driver patches. Opinions on which board remains best vary widely. Both options perform adequately. In my view, I’d stick with the B550 Aorus Pro AC if white suits your setup—it’s a solid choice. I haven’t found much coverage on the Gigabyte model for USB problems, but it might have better BIOS support for mid-range boards. Personally, I own the ITX B550i Aorus Pro AX with the newest BIOS and have no USB issues at all. Generally, the Strix B550 f Gaming is recommended, with positive feedback from users here. For overclocking, turning on PBO works well and is straightforward.
The B550-F and B550-A models are identical except for their color. A is white while F is darker. The Theme Linux board tier indicates the Strix model is A, and the Aorus Pro says S "If white matches your build, easy win for the Strix board..." I don’t mind that detail since my PC stays right next to it. My goal is to see which one lasts longer because I usually upgrade every ten years, except for the GPU which has been updated five years ago.
These components won't change how long your PC lasts. They both perform well and fit perfectly with a 5950x. For longer use, I suggest more than 6 cores—many recent AAA titles need that. When looking at your overall setup, the 5600x feels slightly off in comparison to the rest of your specs. Having 6 cores in 2021 is similar to the situation in 2017 when only 4 threads were available before the first-gen Ryzen and the 8700k arrived.
Oh ok thanks .... I think I'll keep the Asus just because (my own believe) it has better and easier to use bios and has the 3rd revision of the LAN chilp and for the the 5600x I think its enough for me as I dont do heavy gaming nor multitasking ... web browing, youtube, and older games like BF3 and league .. will most likely play BF6 .. the only thing that i cant play is FS2020 due to my weak gpu (for now) ..... again .. Im coming from an I5 3570K and had no issues , just wanted to do a new build because it has been 10 yrs
