Hello, I have a functional HackIntosh running Catalina via OpenCore. I'm interested in adjusting some settings in config.plist. However, I want to prevent any boot problems so I don't need to remove my SSD and mount it as an external drive on another Mac to undo changes if necessary. The tutorial from Dortania suggests using a USB dongle. You should copy the EFI folder from your SSD's EFI partition onto the USB dongle's EFI partition (make any needed edits there) and then boot from the USB. If everything works, transfer the EFI from the USB to your SSD. I attempted this process.
As a preliminary step, I formatted the USB drive (GUID) and copied the EFI folder from the SSD's EFI partition onto the USB dongle's EFI partition. After rebooting, when OpenCore prompts for boot selection, I chose the USB EFI partition—the only option available except from my SSD. Unfortunately, it didn't function as expected, so I'm back to the original boot drive choice. I suspect I might have misunderstood something simple, and I really appreciate any guidance you can provide.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Best, -a-
P.S.: The main partition of my USB dongle appears empty. Could it be that after booting from the USB EFI, the system searches for the OS on the main drive? Uncertain...
Create the USB installation media as before and keep it attached. When modifying config.plist, do so directly on the hard disk. Even if mistakes occur, the USB can still boot the system and fix the issue. While starting from the USB, the OS will load using the config.plist stored on the drive.
