It's best to move to the newest release prior to replacing the CPU. 06xx is quite old, and updating won't cause any issues regarding compatibility.

Its either 0608 or 0906 I'm guessing. Either way 1004 adds support for new CPUs and the boards so old theres no reason to not be running the latest version (1107).
