Hey there! It sounds like your old laptop is having some trouble accessing its hard drive and logging in. Since you don’t have the original serial number, you can try recovering it by checking the system settings or using a factory reset tool. If you want to switch to Windows 10, you might need to reinstall it with the existing serial number from another device. Let me know if you'd like more details on any of these steps!

Hey there... bios? Maybe. I usually keep the serial stickers on my PCs and laptops. If you have a Microsoft account and a USB with a Windows 10 ISO, you don’t need an actual product key—just grab another spare USB, install it, and when prompted for the key, just skip it. After setup, log in with your Microsoft account, and you should get a free digital license.

You're going to try this, and I'll look into it. Initially, you were attempting to use Hiren's boot tools, but now FreeDOS seems frozen during startup.

Her friend's computer isn't labeled with any clues. The case came with Windows 8, but the sticker is missing.
