Checking if the board powers on without a cooler is a good idea. It’s possible to test it first and see if overheating occurs right away.

You were able to use it successfully a few days ago. It worked for about half a minute before turning it off, and it didn’t heat up much afterward.

It's one of those moments when you realize, "Just because it's possible doesn't mean you have to." A fan is always a good idea—better to have one than not. Have you thought about using a desktop fan aimed at the case? It could help push the warm air out. We all know heat rises, so it's safer to be cautious. Take care and good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking of doing it outside the case, on a properly grounded surface to avoid shorts. It should take only 1-2 minutes max—just need to reach POST without booting the OS.

In extreme situations, any method to prevent heat buildup is acceptable. I've observed someone using a metal cube with one side covered in old laptop thermal pads as a makeshift cooler. Their logic was, "if it's just a brief period, doesn't require full cleanliness or proper connection, and it's safer than exposing the CPU directly."
