today i ran the old machine through a test for downloading on a gigabyte ethernet. there was significant input lag when going over 100mbps. the cpu model is 3770k, which is around 4.5 cores—still some issues but the lag isn’t really obvious. what might be causing this problem?

No, I'm downloading to the secondary HDD. It's a Toshiba 2TB 7200 RPM drive.
