In a vacuum scenario? Middle choice – Ryzen 3600 + B450 board works well.
Great pick – i7-8700K with Z370/Z390 setup.
Overkill path – i9-9900K paired with Z390.
Real talk – wait for Ryzen 4000 or 10th gen Intel.
Alternative – wait until Ryzen 4000 or 10th gen Intel arrives.

The current setup isn't sufficient. Considering the situation, my 8700k at 5.0 should cover basic needs. However, a single core/thread is consistently at its limit, even when running at 1440.

You're asking about choosing between an i9 and a Ryzen processor.

Choose the top option for gaming at 9900k, but Ryzen options are stronger overall. Prefer Ryzen for editing, but keep Nvidia and AMD in mind. Amd is solid for your budget—it fits perfectly. Recent updates for cod:mw and Nvidia drivers are performing well. I played on a 4770k with 1080 for hours; frames were low but I stayed competitive. 240hz at 1080p feels much smoother than 144hz at 1440p. Grab the card and enjoy, upgrade later if needed.

I’ve secured the 2070 model and am curious about the processor choice. Staying with Intel seems right for me. Should I upgrade my motherboard to fit a new 9900k chip?

You must have the CPU, motherboard, and RAM.

New stuff is right on the horizon. If I had to buy now, I wouldn't get a 9900k. I guess i would get a 3700x.
