It's a gigabyte gaming system with ATX connectors. The labels are ATX 12V (8-pin) and ATX 12V 1 (4-pin). The machine starts with only the 8-pin connected. Running a Ryzen 7 7700 processor.

It's sufficient to have the 8-pin plug in. The 4-pin is intended for those performing overclocking, as the CPU requires more power than the 8-pin can supply.

Even then, getting an AM5 CPU to handle any power needed to surpass an 8-pin connector is practically unachievable; they stop being useful once that limit is reached. You're okay keeping only the 8-pin part, as the additional 4-pin is mainly for marketing, not real functionality.

You meant to highlight situations where the CPU exceeds its 8-pin limit, but I didn't focus on overclocking attempts. At this stage, the chips are already pushing their limits naturally. To reach such extremes you'd need liquid nitrogen, which introduces additional complications even after getting it.

Confirmed, working smoothly with an 8pin setup on my 7700X. Remains fully stable for several weeks.
