Desktop idle runs at 50c with spikes. Game idle is 60-75. I own a triple rad AIO, ambient temps are 26-30°C. It's hot in my room this summer, and I'm not sure if it's intake or exhaust. It's mounted on top of my PC, with fans inside, the front section open without cross braces facing the screen.
It's likely the room is too warm. My 5900x runs cooler in benches and idle with an EK 360mm AIO, but it stays at a steady 21°C all year. Placing it in a bedroom under a desk would make it much hotter. Some cores get hotter than others. This is my 5900x after a R20 run. As you can see, cores 09 and 10 are hot, while the rest stay cooler. Under load they match. These hot cores raise the average temperature. Spoiler: it's not what you think.
You're still 10 degrees cooler even when it's busy, that's awesome! What's your fan curve like?
Room temperature is quite high right now. Consider adding a window unit or installing a radiator to cool things down. Alternatively, a phase change device could help regulate the heat.
You might consider reapplying thermal paste, as I’m not sure what else could cause my temperature to exceed yours by such a large margin.
A repaste won't repair the issue. The original poster is dumping additional heat in the room that's already hot. End cooling solution to all ambient cooling types is the ambient air temp. That's why OC picks up in the winter. People can really show off!!
My garage features a compact window unit measuring 77f with 35% humidity. I’m not experiencing temperature fluctuations since my processor is much less powerful. During winter when the heat is on, it drops to 65f. The variation between us is significant, creating a higher temperature difference. This means you and I are managing a steeper gradient. High idle temperatures are typical. Considering transistor density, the surges in AMD chips are normal. Inside my home, it stays comfortably cool at 72f. The 2700X performs similarly to the 12400F in the garage—just about the same temperature difference. It’s only a 5F gap, yet the 2700X easily reaches around 140w (at stock settings). Before I installed the AC, it matched your unit exactly. Now that I run the fan in silent mode, everything works fine. This is just an illustration of a few degrees or five degrees difference; sometimes that’s all that matters. Lowering humidity can also make a noticeable impact. Thick air isn’t as effective at transferring heat compared to dry air. Though this might seem counterintuitive, it could indeed contribute to feeling warmer.
