I'm evaluating a transition from an i5 6600k to a Ryzen 2700x. The motherboard will be an Asus Prime X470-pro. My existing RAM setup is a CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB PRO 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3000MHz C15, and I'm checking if it fits with the new processor.
Ryzen appreciates RAM, you'll face no issues. On startup of your new setup, success is guaranteed. Low latency ensures a smooth experience; otherwise, I'd recommend upgrading to 3600Mhz. If your system clocks at 2999Mhz, adjust the BIOS settings to 3000Mhz for optimal performance. Otherwise, everything should run smoothly.
The motherboard can handle DDR4 at 3600mhz. The CPU memory controller can go up to 2933mhz, though anything higher is a bit of a fluke. Your RAM works well and will automatically slow down if it fails to boot. I own two R7 1700 chips; anything above 2666mhz needs some tuning (the max for that chip is 2666mhz), but it’s not always reliable under heavy use.
I'm also relying on 2700x. RAM compatibility for the latest generation isn't a major concern anymore. Focus on getting the best return for your hard-earned money.
Thanks for the feedback. The current Corsair graphite 780t case offers good airflow, and I’m also considering the cooler Master H500P mesh case. Both should provide sufficient ventilation. The reason some boards feel warmer is likely due to their thermal design, heat dissipation efficiency, or airflow patterns within the board itself.
6x40A direct phases, while it's better then most boards there is still room for improvement, the F-Gaming use 6x60A direct phases and as better heatsink, not that it's a known problem on the Prime but it as to be taken into consideration if you have bad airflow. The CM H500 as insane airflow i own one.
