I recently installed a router with 5GHz support, but I’m only seeing the 2.4GHz network listed. I wondered if my network card—like the ASUS PCE-N10 11n—might not be configured properly. Could it be that the issue lies with my setup rather than the router itself? Thanks for your help!

Ensure the wireless setting is configured to 802.11b/g/n for optimal performance. Your card supports up to 150Mbps when using this mode.

You should be able to use 5GHz with your new network card if it supports 802.11ac.

I attempted to switch to 802.11b/g/n and performed a speed test on the 2.4GHz band. The results from my laptop were compared to those taken at the same location one minute apart. This might be related to the outdated network card in my desktop.

The lower part shows your desktop with the Asus card installed. The speed reported by Windows is 25 Mbps.

It's unusual given the speed limit of 150Mbt/s, but I suggest swapping it out. The device relies on a Realtek chipset with poor WiFi support. For a more affordable yet improved option, consider the Fenvi FV102 M.2 to PCIe adapter and the Intel Wireless-AC 9260, both available from Fenvi on AliExpress and Amazon. If you aim for WiFi 6, the Intel WiFi 6 AX200 is a better choice, though adoption may be slow.

It operates on 802.11g with a connection speed of 54Mbps, which means your speed test readings are typical. Restart your device and check if it reconnects at a faster rate. You should aim for around 144.4Mbps, potentially reaching about 65Mbps during your test. If only one stream is active, expect approximately 72.2Mbps.
