Hello. I'm starting my first PC build and have most components ready. I'm still deciding on a GPU and RAM, and I had a query about RAM compatibility with the motherboard model I'm using. I purchased the MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX and the RAM I’m considering isn’t listed as supported on MSI’s website. Here’s the link: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/...ort-mem-18 I’m planning to buy VENGEANCE® LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C16 (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16) because it offers the best price locally and matches my color preferences (all black without RGB). On MSI’s site, a different version is shown with an “R” added (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16R).

How crucial is it to adhere to the supported memory guidelines in the motherboard documentation? Should I strictly choose items from their recommended list, or am I okay with the RAM I listed above? Here’s what I already have: the CPU, cooler, motherboard, storage drive, case, and power supply. The new RAM will be the RX 5600 XT once it arrives. I’m checking reviews to see which brand has the best version and availability in stores.

PCPartPicker lists a total of $980.87 for all parts, including shipping and taxes. This was generated on January 22, 2020.

it will function properly, don't worry. not being listed on the QLV list means MSI hasn't physically tested that motherboard with that RAM model, so they can't promise you the advertised speeds. However, in every case they do work and in about 90% of situations you'll achieve the stated speeds.

Thanks for your response! It’s helpful to confirm the details I can purchase from the list—they’re significantly pricier than the kit I referenced before. Have a great day!
