Hello, from a few months of troubleshooting, I believe the issue began after the creators update. After trying to avoid it for a long time, I updated again and noticed Nioh would stutter and lose frames intermittently. I rolled back the update but the problem continued. After some time, I did a clean install and am now on the latest creators update with a fresh version. When playing Ni no Kuni, everything worked smoothly with consistent frame rates. However, once I started playing FxFV, performance dropped significantly. The CPU runs at full speed (3.6GHz across all 4 cores), but frame rates drop to around 40 when usage reaches 100%. The GPU also struggles to run at full capacity, unlike in the benchmark video I watched on YouTube. I have identical specs—i5 6600K, 1070, 16GB RAM, XMP enabled in BIOS, SSD drive, and Windows set to high performance. My motherboard is an Asus Z710 with extra software installed as shown. The game is running on a recently formatted HDD that was defragmented. Any suggestions to improve performance?

Overclock... What's the value if you have a K SKU CPU and a Z170 motherboard but don't plan to boost them? Pure performance is available right away. You might easily reach higher speeds without increasing voltage, so heat production stays manageable.

Boost performance further. Elevated CPU activity with moderate GPU demand clearly points to a CPU limitation.

The quadcore i5 chips are essentially affordable options now. In today’s games, you’ll likely have to lower the graphics settings, particularly for aspects like rendering depth and model complexity.

Processing load is elevated, causing some delays, though not severe.

The top choice is either a 6700k or 7700k after BIOS flash for kaby lake support. If you haven’t overclocked yet, go with that first. The i5 6600k could work well in some games but won’t be the strongest option.

I own a GTX 1060 and your 6600K is limiting performance in similar situations. With a solid cooler already, pushing it to around 4.7 GHz isn't too bad. If you lack a strong cooler, spending $90-100 on a new one might not be worthwhile. A used 7700K for about $250 could outperform the overclocked 6600K at stock speeds.

FFXV demands high CPU power. Consider upgrading for better performance or purchasing a 7700K.

The i5 6600k is priced lower than the current i3 8350k, making it seem like a more affordable option by today's standards.
