Check if your Core I5 13400 processor works with compatible RAM.
Hello everyone. I'm setting up a new PC using an ASUS Z790 motherboard and a Core i5 13400 CPU. I plan to install a DDR5 dual channel 5600 MHz Corsair RAM with 32GB capacity. My motherboard supports 5600 MHz without overclocking, but the CPU specs list DDR5 up to 4800 MT/s. Could there be any compatibility problems? If yes, is there a way to work around them?
The DDR5-5600 model has been enhanced beyond its standard specifications.
Choosing two sticks of RAM, each with 32GB or 16GB, allows XMP overclocking in one click and reaches speeds up to 7000MT/s.
The motherboard mentions 5600 because top Raptor Lake CPUs (13600K and higher) use a memory controller rated for stock speeds up to 5600. In truth, the 13400 should still perform adequately for DDR5 around 6400, though it might require overclocking technically—it's not assured to work, but I wouldn't be surprised if 6000 functioned well, especially if the chip and board support it.
This product can accommodate 5600 units according to the provided reference.
Thanks for the clarification. Given that Corsair 4800 MHz and 5600 MHz are nearly identical in price, it depends on your needs. If you prioritize cost, the 4800 MHz might be sufficient. However, if you want better performance or future-proofing, the 5600 MHz could be worth the investment. Regarding compatibility issues with the 5600 MHz, underclocking your RAM won’t resolve the problem—ensure your motherboard supports the required speed for your chosen RAM model.
By default it operates at 4800, but XMP must be turned on to reach 5600.
