Check if your ASUS M5A99X Evo r1 works with Windows 10.
I just ran the Media Creation Tool to upgrade my Win7 to Win10 yesterday. The process worked mostly fine—no hardware problems appeared. The only hiccup was with the Windows Virtual PC I used once; it caused some minor issues. After logging in, I started configuring my mail, calendar, Xbox, Groove, and video apps. That’s when trouble began. It turns out local accounts block access to certain store or modern UI apps, and I couldn’t manually log into my M$ account to use them. Every time I tried the login link, it would open and then crash. Eventually, I decided to set up my account directly with M$—but the window still appeared and crashed. So I planned a restart, which helped on another ASUS tablet using Win10. After rebooting, I changed my account but the mouse stopped working. It seemed the mouse receiver was inside the keyboard hub, causing the issue. I tried a different USB port, but it didn’t fix anything. The mouse stayed dead. I checked the device manager and saw the mouse port flagged. I attempted to update drivers, but they were already up to date. I uninstalled all USB controllers, re-scanned hardware, but the problem persisted. I went to ASUS for support and downloaded the correct drivers for my board—Windows 10 drivers for Win7/8.1 64bit—but still got flagged devices. I tried auto-updating, but nothing changed. Eventually, I rolled back to Windows 7. It was a quick and easy fix. Have you faced similar problems with this setup or another system? Any suggestions for workarounds besides using PS2 peripherals or an add-in USB card?
