Hi, I’m currently running the following setup with the newest Windows 11 on a Kingston NVME + 1TB SSD. The components are: CPU – AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, cooler – Noctua NH-U9S, motherboard – MSI B550-A PRO (MS-7C56), RAM – 32GB G.Skill 1600.0 MHz (DDR4-3200 / PC4-25600), SSD/HDD – Kingston SA2000M81000G plus CT1000MX500 SSD, GPU – MSI RTX 3070 VENTUS 2X OC with 8GB DDR6 RAM, power supply – be Quiet! Straight Power 11 PC Netzteil ATX 650W BN282 (3.5 years old), chassis – a nice black one with three fans, originally around 150$, OS – Windows 11 Pro 23H2, monitor – BenQ EW3270U. Most games work well, though Cyberpunk has rendering issues in 4K. Alan Wake 2 doesn’t play perfectly at 4K max. The budget is about 2500 $, and I’m considering a new PC instead if needed, especially with a high-end graphics card in the future. Could there be cheaper options to improve Cyberpunk’s performance at 60 FPS? MSI mentions the CPU could be upgraded to Ryzen 9, Matisse or Vermeer Gen 2/3? Any known limits or problems to watch for? Which parts would be best to avoid? Even if supported, would a Ryzen 9 PRO 3900 be a good upgrade over this board? Or should I look for a different motherboard instead? (bottleneck). I’m having trouble finding the right balance. There are definitely faster RAM options available, but which ones would fit well with this board and make a noticeable difference compared to my G.Skills? A Samsung NVME sounds appealing. For the graphics, what would be too much for this setup, and what should I consider buying? A GeForce RTX 4090 with 25GB GDDR6X RAM sounds exciting, but it would exceed my budget. 😉

Thank you in advance!

If you can afford a significant investment, opting for an AM5 platform would be more advantageous rather than using the AM4 model mentioned earlier.

For those needing an upgrade with a budget constraint, consider the Ryzen 5 5800x3D. It offers dual-channel DDR4-3600Mhz with low latency, maximizing your Ryzen performance if you install the most recent BIOS on your motherboard.

Additionally, it's important to document your current specifications clearly, including the age of the power supply unit along with its make and model.

This would be the clearest CPU upgrade for your existing system. By the way, could you share your PSU specifications—make, model, and age?

Thank you so far. I revised my initial comment.
My first ideas were to swap the CPU with a more powerful one instead of spending all the money on many new parts. Or, skip buying a new PC altogether.
Since I still plan to use DDR4 memory, the bottleneck concerns are clear.
Right now, it’s mainly about Alan Wake 2 and Cybperunk—Id would enjoy 4K rendering. But I’m aware a RTX 3070 isn’t designed for this.
Looking ahead, I used to enjoy upgrading individual components in the past, until it became too late.
Would it really be a bad idea to opt for a 4090 and install the highest possible CPU on my current setup?

When planning your upgrade, consider adding a PSU to your list. A 650w won't be sufficient.
