You're checking if the R7 5700X works with your motherboard. The compatibility info from PCPartPicker says it doesn't support this CPU with older BIOS versions. However, some motherboards do have a flash button or USB update feature that lets you install a USB stick and reboot without the CPU. It seems this feature is real on certain models. Please confirm with your specific board. Thank you!

I've already checked it before and missed what I needed, but I looked again. Just connect the power supply to CPU_PWR1 and ATX_PWR1. No need to install CPU or memory. Please RTFM if you have more questions!

You can update the BIOS using the steps in the PDF manual on MSI's site, specifically around page 46 (text says page 33). The motherboard can handle BIOS updates even without the CPU installed. If the board was made recently, the BIOS might already include the 5700X and you won't need an update without the CPU.

You can check for a BIOS update without the CPU by using the manufacturer's online tools or checking the motherboard documentation. Since you're preparing for your first build, it's wise to verify the update requirements before proceeding.

Occasionally, the packaging box for the motherboard includes a label with the model or serial number. It can indicate the BIOS version installed. Manufacturers don<|pad|>, usually don’t update the same BIOS revision repeatedly over time. For certain B550/X570 boards, a small sticker on the box mentions it’s compatible with the Ryzen 5000 series. The exact version depends on the production date.

Certainly. If the standard setup doesn't fit, simply flash the BIOS without the CPU installed. The only models likely requiring a BIOS update at launch would be the 5600X3D and 5800X3D, since they came later than the official 2020 release of the 5000 series. The outcome will depend on other factors.

This approach aligns well. The board I selected (MSI B550-A Pro) was launched in 2020 with 17 BIOS updates, the latest in July 2023. The Ryzen 7 5800X came out in 2020, making it probable the BIOS was updated for CPU compatibility. However, if the board isn’t marked with the current version, updating it might still be necessary, which is a simple step even for beginners.

This motherboard includes a BIOS flash button, allowing you to update the BIOS if it's outdated or incompatible with newer CPUs. The timing on the shelf also plays a role in compatibility.
