I upgraded to a Ryzen 5 5600X and installed an MSI B550M motherboard. Everything functioned smoothly without any issues on the first day. I realized I hadn’t activated XMP in the BIOS, so I opened it. This was my initial experience with the MSI BIOS, and I mistakenly chose the second profile preset because it displayed a 3200 DRAM speed. Save. It restarts. Upon booting, the CPU indicator lights up, then the DRAM light, followed by the VGA light, which turns off, then the boot light appears. Both the DRAM and boot lights remain active until I power down the PC, though the monitor stays dark. Lights illuminate and fans begin spinning. I reinserted and removed the GPU, used onboard graphics via HDMI. I also tried using a single RAM stick (tried booting in every slot) and reset the CMOS once. I grounded myself, took it out for an hour, then reinstalled it but the same problem persisted. I also attempted to short the two pins near the CMOS using a screwdriver tip, following instructions from the manual. I’m fairly certain the issue stems from the BIOS profile I selected. I faced a comparable issue with my Ryzen 5 5800X and MSI B550 A-Pro. After booting with standard RAM, everything functioned normally—games ran, browsing worked, and daily tasks were fine. However, when I enabled XMP1/XMP2 settings (with XMP1 set to XMP2 for my HyperX Fury 2X16G 3200MHz CL16), the RAM failed to recognize it in the BIOS. Just completed a build using identical specifications: MB, RAM, and CPU. Installed Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3600MHz PC4-28800 with C18 1.35V. Ran into an issue where XMP is enabled but the system doesn’t boot. Turning it off works fine. Reading MSI Reddit, someone with similar specs and a Ryzen 5600X reported the same problem, though stable operation was possible at 3200MHz manually set. AMD’s compatibility list doesn’t include my RAM, but MSI does for MB. It’s a bit disappointing. I’ll likely try the manual 3200 setting next time.
