I purchased this device and was almost tempted to buy a Maximus Xi, but I checked their driver page—it only supports the W10 model. What should I do with this black screen? It appears to try to boot into Windows 7, loads normally, then suddenly stops.
Hey, the start of everything online never looked the same before. That game is still running and active now. I’ve had trouble getting it to run smoothly on Windows 10—it’s way better than Windows 7. I tried all the settings, but it’s still the only reason I prefer Windows 7.
I never tried installing Win7 from the ground up on any system newer than Z170. Most of those older systems included a Win7 installation option, which was the final Intel chipset supported with that OS. For anything newer, I transfer the installation media to an older Intel system and follow the steps to make it work. I've heard some folks try to slipstream drivers and updates onto the media, but I don't have time for that.
I hope I could learn the right way to search for that information now.
I switched from a Z77 + i7 3770k to a Z170 + i7 6700k by changing two registery keys (lost them but found online later) and just started it. There were some problems at first, but fixing them usually involved updating the BIOS and making sure all drivers were installed. Not having drivers for a while might have helped too. If you have another older machine, try installing Windows 7 on the target drive, skip any drivers, download the USB and networking ones, set those two switches, then insert the drive into your new system.
