Hello! It's a good idea to consider upgrading if you're looking for better performance. Win8.1 is known for improved core utilization and overall speed. With your i5 4690K, SSD, and hard drive, you should see noticeable gains. Just check the specific benchmarks to confirm the improvement.

Many players favor version 7 instead of 8.1 because 8.1 feels odd to operate (personally). It's not worth the upgrade mainly for speed, particularly if you're running an i5 4690k with an SSD. You won't see any noticeable improvement even with the upcoming Windows 10 release—just hold off until then.

I favor values above 7 and enjoy having the standard taskbar alongside the start menu ;c

8.1 can be pleasant with the right touch, if not Windows 7 it runs smoother or better. Both Windows 7 and 8.1 receive a free upgrade to Windows 10 as well. I own an 8.1 on my laptop, and I dislike it (though that's my take). From what I've seen, it feels like a blend of 8.1 and Windows 7.

With seven units available, upgrading isn't necessary. For a fresh setup, Linus mentioned Windows 8 offers better performance compared to Windows 7.

Start8, classic shell, et al are your allies. Eight is marginally superior. Yet I believe Microsoft attempted to merge the OS for mobile devices (phones, tablets, etc.) with desktop environments. Most people don’t use touch on desktops—they’d rather type while leaning forward and handle their screens directly. (IMHO) Win8 with Classic shell beats Win7.

It's best to stay on 7 without needing to look elsewhere, as 8 can be overwhelming. Keep going with 7.

8.1 feels quite awkward for touch input. A keyboard offers a much smoother interaction.

I generally got marginally better results in 8, though there were slight improvements in other areas at 7. It really depends on the perspective.
