My specifications are:
ASUS X99-A
32GB RAM
Intel Core i7 5960X clocked at 3.00 GHz turbo clock at 3.5 (no overclocking done)
MSI GTX 980ti 6GB GDDR5
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
In my bios I have 3 power modes, power saving, normal, and asus optimal.
Is it safe to run it in asus optimal? I noticed my turbo clock exceeded 3.5 up to a maximum of 3.8 GHz, and I read online that this setting can affect voltage stability. I wanted to confirm, as I tested this mode before and it remained stable (no crashes or restarts). I used core temp to check temperatures, but I’m not sure what temperature levels are considered problematic.

It's secure, similar to any other method for OCing, so keeping track of your temps is important. The best setting is generally maximum power, but I usually stick to the standard level that works well for most tasks.

Usually I play gaming on my desktop, but if I wanted to, would I notice a big jump in fps or just a slight improvement? I'm not running high-res games, just those that work on Direct X 9/10.

Sure, try it and let me know if it helps. If not, I'll leave it as is.

I wouldn't expect a big jump in frame rate on games. I don't usually play high-res, graphics-heavy titles, so I was curious if setting it to ASUS optimal would make a difference. Probably not much, just a slight improvement or no change at all.
