I just received a free 3600X and it installed smoothly on my X370 board without any problems. I also have an RX5700XT and a M.2 970 Evo. Would there be any advantages to using a X570 board at the moment? I’m not planning any future upgrades for the CPU or anything similar. I’m staying within my current specs. My R15 score is around 1620, which varies slightly each time I run it—not overclocked. My RAM is slower than I’d like, but since I bought it when the Ryzen 1000 was first released, I have 2666 MHz and a clock speed of 1300 MHz.
I currently don’t have any PCI-e 4.0 drives, so it seems like it’s not an issue for me.
Which X370 model are you considering? If you chose a 500-series motherboard, the B550 would be the best fit. Both X570 and B550 support PCI-E 4.0 via the CPU—providing PCI-E X16 slots for graphics cards plus one NVMe SSD. The main distinction lies in the B550 chipset: it uses PCI-E 3.0 lanes, whereas the X570 supports PCI-E 4.0. If you need multiple NVMe devices and require PCI-E 4.0, opt for the X570.
That’s what I was considering, but I’m not sure which RAM to pick right now. A 3200MHz would have been an issue on this board with my 1600MHz before. I’d like something around 3600MHz if possible, and I think the higher end might be better since its IMC is higher.
I'm still using a B350M on my 3600, and it functions well with a 3200MHz RAM. It could be the 1600 that's causing the issue.
Generally no, the x16 Gen 3 provides sufficient bandwidth. For M.2 drives, it doesn’t matter much unless you’re fully using Gen 3 capacity. With x370 boards, there’s no issue either.
