It seems you're new to NAND health discussions. This doesn't imply the drive slows down; rather, it indicates that once the drive hits 0%, no further data can be stored. The write cycles are exhausted, meaning the tiny transistors in the SSD can no longer reliably switch between 1 and 0.

The only evidence presented is confusion about SSD performance and longevity. It seems everyone assumes SSDs slow down naturally over time, even though no one has ever claimed they become permanently slower. This is similar to arguing about how long Chinese food stays safe in the fridge—just because you don’t see it explode doesn’t mean it’s safe for months. In this case, the point is that people are insisting on proof before accepting the facts, which makes it hard to agree on anything.

i completely agree but the discussion about ssd doesn<|pad|> a lot of misunderstands. it’s unrealistic to claim a ssd lasts over 30 years for under $65. if there’s no real difference, why bring it up? maybe early drives didn’t last much (maybe the myth), and a new drive would probably perform better too. it’s probably not worth trusting experts on this. i don’t really understand how hdd work when a sector fails—it tries to shift data elsewhere and checks if it works. ssd likely uses the same logic but without a moving part. so in short, the only real difference is probably negligible. no significant slowdown for regular use (os, files, backups). edited September 28, 2023 by thrasher_565
