Tonight my Windows 10 Pro device indicated that version 1903 was ready for download and installation. However, I've been putting off updates and sticking to the Semi-Annual update stream to avoid waiting longer. I'm wondering if it's safe and reliable to upgrade to 1903 without any issues, since this machine is critical for my production, streaming, and gaming operations. I need full uptime and stability. Thank you ahead!
I've been using 1903 for a few weeks, possibly two months. I don't remember the exact date it was installed. It came with the system and I needed to run the Update Assistant because the release was being released gradually. The only problem I faced was the update assistant not working properly; it seems you can't install 1903 using a flash drive or other external storage connected to the computer. I'm not sure if this is still true. After setting it up on my work machine and testing it for a day, I installed it on all my Windows 10 systems. It feels more stable and responsive, and I'm happy with the new features. Of course, backing up important files is always a good idea, but I didn't encounter any issues. I'm very cautious about system changes, so I always make a full image of the main drive before making major updates.
You can check all reported problems on the newest versions here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows...ws-10-1903 I rely on Macrium Reflect and EaseUS Partition Master for both professional and personal use, mainly for imaging and recovery. My team, including the SysAdmin and IT Director, considers the 1903 release quite stable. We deployed around 20 systems to end users recently, all running 1903. The only challenge we faced was a bug from a third-party software used by a sales team; one person encountered it but found a workaround. Unless you're using Salesforce and need to search within Outlook add-ons without copying-pasting, you'll likely be satisfied with the update.
The main issue was a minor problem with the monitor driver affecting the Nvidia control panel's ability to adjust brightness and contrast. Switching to a standard plug-and-play monitor fixed it. I also took pictures of my system prior to upgrading for reference.
I'm handling it this weekend. I'll perform a fresh installation of Windows so everything starts from scratch.
A fresh setup is always the best choice, which means doing things correctly. The upgrade has performed well for everyone I've worked with. It's significantly improved over earlier versions. It's always wise to back up your data beforehand.
I haven't resolved the issues with the existing setup. After using 1803 for two years, the current version is full of problems. Updates often cause reinstalls because they introduce bugs.
I believe I’ll likely make a perfect copy of my present Windows setup onto another drive and then use the upgrade utility. I’m not really in the mood for a full clean install.
