Check if the socket has cracks in the plastic casing.
Hey there! I’m a 50-year-old dad who loves gaming, but this is my first time dealing with computers. My son accidentally broke the plastic around the CPU socket while taking out the CPU. Is the motherboard still usable? Can we fix that socket? Please see the photo you attached. Thanks for your time and understanding!
If the pads are intact, it could still be fixed, though it may not be worth keeping. It’s usually wiser to get the motherboard back or attempt a repair instead.
In theory, as long as the pins touch the pads, everything should work. But if most of the holes aren’t intact, the device could move too much and become unstable. The best solution is to test it.
It doesn't match LGA 1155, seems to be AM4 instead. The socket is for Intel chips, while your device uses AMD processors. It might still fit, but you'll need to handle alignment very carefully.
For an AMD CPU, there should be no instability in the socket if the plastic parts are intact.
The process involves a special plastic sliding part that secures the CPU inside the socket. Turning the lock releases friction on the pins at the bottom, keeping the CPU in position. The pins touch the gold contacts on the bottom plate or half of the socket. If the top piece is cracked, the socket becomes loose by half. Handle with care.
