I purchased a Dell Inspiron 5680 in 2019 with 8GB of RAM, and it still performs well. However, games I play often lag or crash when using maximum RAM during load. I’m considering adding another 8GB stick, but I’m unsure if the new one (also DDR4, 2666MHz) will work with the existing unit since they’re from different brands. Dell is asking 130 euros, but I can find it for 25-50 euros online.

It needs to work with the same frequency, timing, and voltage as the existing PC component. Look for a device that matches those specifications—there should be an option on the stick or in the BIOS to confirm compatibility.

You can use Passmark RamMon to identify your current RAM type and timing details. This information can assist in making the right choice. If your RAM is 1Rx16, consider upgrading to a model with 1Rx8 for improved performance.
