Hi, I'm checking if the Intel Core i7 8700 and the ASRock H310CM HDV M.2 are compatible. My motherboard supports 1 x PCI-E 3.0 x16 and 2 x PCI-E 2.0 x1 slots, while the i7 has up to 1x16 PCI-E. If they don't fit, I need a budget-friendly MATX motherboard recommendation. Thanks!

H310 and H310C boards work well with the 8700 chipset. However, buying too much for the motherboard may affect CPU speed.

I would pick the most affordable Z370/90 model available. It offers quicker memory access and is significantly less prone to throttling.

Z370 or z390 chipsets support both CPU and RAM overclocking. B365, B360, H370, and H310 models lack this feature and will operate RAM at Intel specifications, such as 2666 MHz for the 8700. While you can't increase the multiplier on the 8700, using RAM faster than 2666 can still enhance performance. Ranges from 3200 to 3600 are standard. The process usually involves selecting an XMP profile and completing it.
