Are you experiencing just coil whine or a more significant issue? It seems unclear if it comes from the power supply unit or the graphics card. You have an 850W gold PSU paired with an RTX 4080, and the noise appears only during high workloads (like pushing framerate limits). Switching to Alt+Tab stops the sound, as noted in the video. Thanks for your input!

The simplest method to determine its origin is using the classic mechanic technique of placing a paper towel tube, or any similar-sized tube, with one end near your ear and the other close to the suspected area during the event. Listen for the loudest sound. Whine is usually bothersome but harmless, allowing us to proceed confidently.

It might be due to excessive current draw.

You should expect occasional coil whine from the coils vibrating against each other, producing a faint ringing sound that varies in audibility. As you age, hearing sensitivity decreases, so not everyone perceives it equally. High power usage can trigger this issue, typically originating from the GPU. There are effective solutions and warnings available in a helpful discussion here: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threa...se.294015/

I experience the same issue with my 7900XT when under load. It’s not hazardous, just mildly bothersome. If it doesn’t affect you, there’s no need to worry. Occasionally, if it’s new, it might stop working after a short period.
