You're considering the R5 5600 and RTX 3080, and you're unsure about the best motherboard. The ROG STRIX B450-F is a solid choice, but the B550 offers more features. Beyond PCIe 4.0, the B550 provides better VRM stability and overclocking potential. Audio support is decent on both, but the B550 may handle higher-end audio drivers better. It's worth it if you plan to push performance or enjoy gaming with VR experiences.
the vrms on the b450 strix-f are poor, whereas the b550 strix-f delivers great performance. this means you won't be able to push it beyond its limits on the b450 model. only the ryanze 5000 is supported via a beta bios on these boards, though it's unclear if this version is available yet. even if it is, you'll likely need an older 2000 or 3000 series processor to flash the bios onto it, since this board doesn't allow bios flashback. in short, i wouldn't suggest the b450 strix-f at all. the b550 strix-f is outstanding, but there are more affordable options that perform well if you're not limited to the rog strix design.
Do you already have the B450 board? Why do you prefer sticking with the B450 instead of the newer B550, which was designed for the 5000 series? Is it about cost? There are affordable B550 options that work better than similarly priced B450 boards. What is your budget, and where are you purchasing from?
Currently available in the US. I own an MSI B450 Pro gaming carbon board, but I've repeatedly attempted to update the BIOS without success. Perhaps it's time to purchase a new motherboard and repurpose the existing one for another system. I believe investing in a more advanced and costly motherboard isn't worth the expense, as it doesn't significantly boost performance.
this looks much improved compared to the b450 strix-f and should fit well with the 5600x. i’d work on getting the BIOS updated. the b450 strix-f costs $130, which feels like a copycat product. i’d opt for these alternatives instead: asrock b550 phantom gaming 4, asrock b550m pro4, msi b550m pro-vdh wifi, asrock b550 phantom gaming 4/ac, msi mag b550m, bazooka gigabyte b550m, or aorus pro at just $10 more.
You're welcome! I'm glad I could assist. These motherboards are indeed superior, and I'm happy to help. Thank you for your feedback!
