Purchased an older 870 QVO (8TB) storage unit. Samsung's marketing suggested it would operate quickly, reaching speeds over 500 MB/s. However, the actual write performance falls significantly short of expectations. In CrystalDiskMark I’m seeing around 170MB/s, and real file transfers appear similar. After turning on write caching via Device Manager, this changed. The unusual part of my configuration is using a USB 3.2 Gen 2 enclosure with 10Gbps speeds. While I recognize SATA3 as a limitation, practical SATA3 throughput caps around 3GB/s (about 375MB/s), which is much lower than the 170MB/s I’m measuring. I also know the QVO’s write cache fills quickly, restricting performance to the speed of its QLC NAND until then. Either the cache size is insufficient or there’s another factor at play.

I'm working on a laptop and don't have an NVMe to SATA adapter to combine. Still, considering this, connecting it to a SATA3 port should exceed 170 MB/s. I'll try linking it to a desktop and let you know the results.

The sat 3 model exceeds 500 in practical use. I recently tested it on an 850 EVO.

The performance meets expectations with around 530 MB/s writes over a SATA3 connection. The USB 10gbps port and enclosure seem to limit speed, though I’m still trying to figure it out. Read speeds matched what I saw on my laptop using USB.
