I've been getting 500Mbps for more than six months now. I'm completely satisfied—it's very fast. However, I feel like I might be overpaying or using more than necessary. We all share the same internet connection, and we each have gaming consoles, phones, and computers. We stream 2K and 720p videos daily, watch Netflix regularly, and stream videos too. Should we lower our speed to save money? I don’t want any lag at all. Any suggestions would be great.

I share a room with one other person too, and 100 works perfectly for me.

It's sufficient with just 100Mbps. The bitrate for a standard 1440p video at 60 frames per second rarely exceeds 32Mbps.

From an ISP standpoint, combining all gig customers minus steady downloads, the strongest speeds we typically observe reach around 120mbps. Beyond 60mbps, real-world gains are minimal unless someone is heavily downloading. Streaming tends to be inconsistent, and TCP allows spreading several 4k streams over a single 60mpbs connection, which limits performance. For file downloads, it’s all about speed when you need it most.

It varies based on how often you download games and how long you need to wait before playing an uninstalled title.

Avoid downloading and uploading large files often to maintain performance
