Hey, guys hear me out I bought a hp pavilion 15 with Intel 1235u, 12gb ram, windows 11 home, crappy 41wh battery (see specs through link) https://support.hp.com/hr-en/document/c08262368 Here goes the STORY: ON a fine evening i decided to download my favourite old game gta San Andreas. I go to <redacted> download it and then install it as per the installation guide (I'm quite aware that is piracy and has the potential to brick windows 11 itself. But idk it's 2 decades old game ) Then it runs fine without restarting and i restarted my laptop and the fun began The windows won't boot and gave me bsod with code : windows_nonbootable partition (or something) I was like $hit and knew this was going to happen with piracy but I'm 18. I created a win 11 boot usb and then install problem solved. It should be easy right? Wrong!! Windows 11 asked me to connect To internet but the in-built WiFi card wouldn't work because of lack of drivers i guess. I don't have usb c/a to rj 45 cable. Rj 45 port has become a rear unicorn with thin and light laptops. I literally craped my pants and the realisation dawned. The track pad too didn't work had to connect external USB mouse. I was like Shit and started to think how to get out of this situation (the laptop was bought at Costco i could have returned it to them, unlucky me i live in India and the laptop was gifted to me by my uncle) After a lot of pondering i remembered win 10 didn't required internet for setup then again realisation struck win 10 doesn't have proper instructions set for Intel hybrid architecture (p and e cores) and i was like let me just get this laptop working first! At installation page same issue track pad doesn't work and i couldn't control the brightness of screen from function keys it was default set To max. I set it up and still the wifi wasn't working i pondered what can be done and remembered usb tethering and connected my phone to laptop and viola the internet works I reached out to hp USA with the same laptop. I explained my situation They said I may have to ship it out to them (it was just a week old). I said I can't cause i Live outside us They guided me through how to "hp cloud recovery" and it took a solid 2hrs to download and install on my usb. The software specifically asked for 32gb usb pendrive (the win 11 doesn't need more than 16gb pendrive it's for all the hp bloatware i guess ) lucky me i had that on hand. And it again took 1 hr to install win 11 (I was afraid wifi wouldn't work at installation page but it did thank God and the track pad too.) and all the bloatware was at least the pc works fine now I had to stay up all night because of this mistake and i have learnt my lesson laptops and prebuilt pcs suck so does win 11 why the hell does it need internet at the time of installation it self? I was like f u Microsoft the whole time Tldr: don't do piracy, always have a working pc in hand and most important of all win 11 and hp bloatware suck Thanks for reading Edited June 24, 2022 by LogicalDrm

This experience has never occurred before when I downloaded all three of the initial GTA titles, and it happened on XP. Things are only getting worse. (Reminder: grab abandonware from archive.org CD rips, not random sites.) Absolutely, as a refurbisher, OEM systems can be quite unusual. At least yours started up from USB, believe me or not—many won’t. Adjusting the mouse driver and screen brightness is typical before drivers are installed, which usually comes later in the setup process. Don’t claim all laptops are terrible so quickly. Sure, Windows 11 isn’t great, but there are still decent options like older ThinkPads and precision machines that work well and can be customized.

You needed to visit support.hp.com to obtain and install the necessary drivers for your laptop. Windows wasn't able to locate the required drivers, which caused issues. Updated on June 22, 2022 by RockSolid1106

Windows 10 requests a connection to the internet for installation. You can inform it you lack internet access and proceed with the offline setup. Windows 11 requires an internet link as well. You can still continue the offline installation when you say no to internet. I handle this myself at work to avoid the repeated push from both versions about needing a Microsoft account instead of a local one. For Windows 11, I was using Windows 11 Pro, maybe Windows 11 Home won’t let me keep going offline. It functions on both editions of Windows 10, though. ^^^ I’ve done this on all the newer laptops I’ve used, including models from HP and Samsung. The installation packages for Windows 10/W11 aren’t fully complete yet for all drivers.

I believe it's important to steer clear of companies that market themselves as superior simply because they use proprietary technology. This can trap you in a cycle where you must interact with them and their misleading claims after purchase. Many don’t take responsibility when things go wrong. I understand those who fall for such tactics, though this applies more to consumer electronics than gaming rigs. Personally, my custom build with the 5900X and RTX3060ti will run smoothly for years. You can use a USB-3.0 to Ethernet adapter. They’re very affordable and handy for situations where you have an existing Ethernet port or need a quick fix. Even if you don’t plan to use it often, the low cost makes it a practical choice. A 100Mbps speed is more than enough for basic troubleshooting. USB 3.0 isn’t strictly necessary unless your internet connection doesn’t reach that speed, but it helps with both upload and download simultaneously—USB 2.0 only allows one-way transfer at a time, which can cause delays when using Ethernet. USB 3.0 addresses this issue. If you find a reasonably priced adapter within your budget (just a few dollars), grab the drivers from another device, copy it to a USB flash drive, install it on your laptop, and launch Audit Mode (CTRL + SHIFT + F3). This will install all necessary drivers and let you access your system settings. After that, click the “OK” button in the System Preparation window to restore everything as it was before. This method is similar to what OEMs use when setting up new computers, allowing mass installation of drivers.

Use Shift + F10 to open the command prompt and run the command to end the process.

First, just two decades won’t make something worth justifying piracy. It’s not abandoned games either—Rockstar keeps selling them. Second, if downloading software or games breaks your operating system, that’s likely the strongest DRM yet. Third, HP isn’t a good maker of anything besides printers.
