Hello everyone, I just completed a fresh build and powered it up for the first time. Everything except the GPU is brand new. I encountered odd crashes in Chrome and failed installs, with error messages pointing to memory issues and incorrect MD5 hashes. I ran Memtester, which revealed several problems, but the RAM stick placement seems to affect stability. Using both sticks initially causes a lot of errors; switching them makes the system much more reliable. So far, the OS hasn’t shown any faults, though I still saw six errors in fifty passes. Switching to 2133Mhz instead of 3600Mhz (XMP profile 1) appears stable, but I’ll keep testing. After adjusting the speed to 3200Mhz CL16, I got zero errors with Memtester. It’s only unstable at 3600Mhz CL18 despite its specs. Should I replace the RAM sticks or is this another issue affecting other components? The slot I use makes a big difference. Six errors in fifty passes seem concerning, though I’m not sure. Specs: Ryzen 5 5600X MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon Max Wifi Sapphire Nitro+ RX580, Patriot Viper Steel RAM 32GB 2x16GB, 3600Mhz CL18.
It might be the memory controller on the 5600x that’s limiting performance. Up to 3200 MHz is confirmed, beyond that it’s essentially an overclock. This doesn’t seem like a RAM problem since swapping slots noticeably changes errors. Six errors indicate instability. I’d likely stick with 3200 MHz unless you can test the RAM elsewhere. Running at rated speed could impact resale value, especially if you plan to sell later.

The support staff mentioned a possible incompatibility with the motherboard because the exact RAM model isn't listed in MSI's supported memory catalog. They pointed out that other brands offer similar kits, and your specific model might not have been included during testing for Ryzen 3000. Additionally, the kit functions perfectly at standard speeds (2133Mhz and 3200Mhz) but has minor issues at higher frequencies like 3466Mhz and 3600Mhz.
To get a clear understanding, you'll need to evaluate each part individually across various systems and configurations. The overall range available is relatively narrow; however, if you locate a suitable package at a reasonable cost, it would be ideal, though finding such options can be challenging.
I have tested the CPU in an MSI X570 board with Crucial 3600Mhz RAM for like 15 hours with no errors, so i think it has to be a motherboard incompatibility but I don't understand it. Because I have a custom case, there is no space behind the mobo for the CPU power cable so it was sitting on the ram as part of it's route to the socket at the top. Could electrical interference from a power cable cause instabilities at higher frequencies?
I tried it a few more times and it feels more reliable, though mistakes remain. I gave up and capped it at 3200MT/s. It's not ideal, but the results at 400MT/s wouldn't justify the extra effort.
