This motherboard is proving quite challenging. I purchased it with an i7-9700k, RTX 2080 Extreme OC, and 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RAM, powered by a 850W Gold-certified Corsair PSU. Despite everything lighting up and fans spinning, the system won’t boot. Gigabyte is advising patience for a few days while they investigate. Personally, I find this situation frustrating. During diagnostics, a red light near the DRAM section flashes, then another beside it labeled "VGA" lights up, stuck on error code 18. Some suggest the graphics card might be the issue, but removing and testing it didn’t help. There’s a possibility the BIOS needs flashing, though the manual mentions Q-Flash support for Z370 Aorus Gaming 7. The manual claims USB updates will work, but I only have yellow, blue, and red ports—none respond. I’m seeking guidance on flashing this board or identifying the exact error code. Please help, I’m eager to resolve this and appreciate any advice.
Locate the Blue USB port beside the Ethernet connector. Disconnect the CPU, RAM, GPU and other components. Verify the bois file on the USB stick is up to date and uncompressed. Insert the USB drive into the Blue port and power the system on. Allow a minimum of 3 minutes or wait until the LED near the USB port ceases flashing.
I disconnected all cables except the power connector for the motherboard; every device was also unplugged. Only the PSU and the board itself started up, taking roughly eight seconds, then shutting off briefly before restarting again. Every 1-2 seconds it would cut out for a millisecond and reboot, repeating endlessly. I waited five minutes without seeing any light activity inside or near the USB port. The access indicator on my USB stick never lit up. Instead of VGA or DRAM indicators, the CPU light flashed each time it turned back on. There’s no diagnostic code available. It’s really frustrating.
Possible issues could include a faulty USB drive, incorrect formatting (needs FAT 32), or missing extraction of the BOIS file. Ensure all contents are present on the USB stick, not just in folders, and avoid compression to guarantee compatibility. I use a USB stick solely for BIOS updates.
I used another USB stick; identical outcomes... Each one was Fat32 and held extracted files for F13. Here’s a video showing the device’s behavior. I’ve also attached two pictures of the USB setup I’m using.
Are there any nearby folks who still have an 8th generation processor? You might be able to lend it for a short time. Places like local computer shops or online marketplaces could help. All you need is that specific CPU, which makes updating the BIOS straightforward.
