Hello! I’m just starting out with PC building. My main worry is that the two new Skihotar 8 GB DDR4 3200 MHz RAM modules I bought don’t fit my current system — it’s surprising to me. Here are the basic details of my PC: * CPU: Intel i5 8400 * GPU: Palit GTX 1060 * Mobo: Gigabyte Z370M DS3H * PSU: Trendsonic 600 Watts * RAM: Hyundai 16 GB DDR4 2400 MHz (installed) I’ve done some research, but I’m still confused. I asked a few experienced builders in the community for advice, hoping they could clarify this. When I tried installing the new RAM and turned on my PC, it kept restarting repeatedly. I read somewhere that enabling XMP in BIOS would help match the speed, but I couldn’t find that setting. I checked my Mobo’s specs and thought it supported XMP. The only part that’s unclear is the CPU and RAM — they’re from a Chinese manufacturer, and their support info is in Chinese. When I contacted the distributor, they said the RAM should work fine since it’s a recent model. Now I’m trying to verify the CPU specs. According to Intel’s site, the RAM type listed is DDR4-2666. Does that mean the processor can only handle up to 2666 MHz? I think I’ve figured something out, but I really need reassurance from you all that I might have made a mistake with this upgrade.
Are you swapping the existing RAM or installing an additional 16GB? Mixing different brands could cause issues. Have you attempted to reset the CMOS before installing the new RAM? The memory support types listed should match what the CPU can handle, though XMP compatibility is expected. What version of your BIOS does it appear to be? Initially, verify that the RAM functions properly without XMP enabled (which should work).
I successfully fixed the issue after several attempts. Thank you to everyone who provided their advice. By following a tutorial online, I created a bootable device and started my PC from it, which allowed me to install Q-Flash and update the BIOS. The problem is now resolved.
