Hi, I see you're trying to upgrade your CPU for the Skybay SDK0J40700 motherboard. You've already tried an i7-7700 and can't upgrade your BIOS because it's locked. You're considering the i7-6700, which is in the same family as your current i5-6400. Let me know if you'd like more details or guidance on this option.

It's a Lenovo OEM board, it seems they didn't prioritize 7th generation compatibility. For your choice, the i7-6700 is the top recommendation.

Looking for a quicker CPU. Your current one runs at 2.7GHz, but some newer games suggest 3.3GHz. Make sure your motherboard can handle that upgrade.

It's great you're on the right track. Since I can't modify the bios, I'll go ahead and place the order for the 6700. Appreciate your patience!

My answer is based on the 6700 specifications. Other models did support it, so it should function. The 7th generation won't fit because it would result in an unnecessary expense.

That's the base clock. What else do you have? The 6700 is the minimum spec for current games. Don't expect it to hold much longer. What price is the 6700? If it's around $100, you might want to invest about an additional $100 for a CPU and board that lasts significantly longer than the one still working with PS4 and Xbox One.

Check your current processor before purchasing. Swapping to an i7 would offer a major boost if you're using an i3, while an i5 upgrade may provide some gains but could be less cost-effective.

I own a Nvidia GTX 1070 with 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and a 1TB HDD. The GTX 6700 costs around £70 in a used shop.

My processor is an i5-6400 with a clock speed of 2.7 GHz. Focus on performance rather than features. Current titles need at least 3.3 GHz.
