Second and third wave Intel processors seem ideal for a 32GB DDR3 RAM setup. If the motherboard allows memory overclocking, expect speeds around 2400; otherwise, you'll likely hit JDEC limits at about 1333.

Refer to the datasheet for the CPU model you're using. For memory, I've always managed to fit the biggest DIMMs without issues, even when they weren't officially approved or shipped with the system.
