Hello, your request involves upgrading a Lenovo ThinkCentre M55 from the C2D E6300 to the C2Q Q6600. Check if the hardware supports this model change. Since you mentioned no documentation, you may need to verify compatibility through manufacturer resources or contact support for detailed guidance.

You did a solid job getting things moving again. For the next step, think about an upgrade I mentioned earlier—most core2quads fit in the 775 socket, though a few unusual boards might need adjustments. I recommend going with a Q8400 and pushing it to its limits.

Yes, many OEM motherboards allow overclocking with proper BIOS settings and compatible hardware.

I'm a tech enthusiast and noticed the BIOS only backs up CPUs from their release time. It won't allow overclocking. I saw the Q6600 works but it would display: Unknown CPU BIOS and trigger a 70% fan speed (jet engine) to safeguard the processor since it doesn't recognize the CPU type. I'm curious about what it would say in the Product Information section of the BIOS (Pentium 4 included)?

It looks like most 775 boards support overclocking. I tried an OEM board and it worked well.

Consider updating the BIOS. It could be challenging because it's an older version, but it's still achievable.

I changed the BIOS on just one motherboard, and the wall power was okay...not too tidy, perhaps.

Are you sure about the situation? Have you caused any damage?

I messed up a high-end PC about six years ago during a BIOS update, and the power cut out in the middle.
