I've never faced issues with modding on Steam (Oblivion, Skyrim, KotOR, etc.). It's mainly about locating the folders.
It seems this topic mainly covers a few of the numerous modifications.
You explored various modifications for enhanced experience, focusing on the Steam modding environment. Which specific changes were you considering?
I hope they function more often than expected. In the worst case, if it fails and files are deleted or disabled, it could lead to a quick ban, a permanent one, or even worse. For multiplayer, confirm you're joining a server approved by the mod, as that usually results in a few days to months of playtime. A worrying thought is my 7-year-old son might end up on a Minecraft server with you at some point.
It doesn't occur in GTA 3 and is meant for offline use. I don't believe GTA 3 and VC have a fully official online presence, and I wouldn't assume every Steam title will function well with most retail mods, especially considering how Oblivion handles issues on the Steam version of that game.
I don't take it for granted that everyone does. I haven't run into any problems with Bethesda mods on Steam. There was a conflict with a Deus Ex mod, but the response was just a general caution since some folks aren't fully informed. My 13-year-old cousin got a skin mod for CS and was banned for six months—what a disappointment.
