Hello everyone! The upcoming FPS mode in Star Citizen is generating a lot of excitement. I had planned to purchase an R9 270, but after checking online discussions and YouTube reviews, I learned the game uses CryEngine. Since Cryengine doesn’t support AMD, should I still buy the R9 270? Or would cards from NVIDIA like the GTX 750ti or GTX 960 perform better than the R9 270 in Star Citizen? My budget stays around $150 to $170, so please avoid suggesting a GTX 980.

They say CryEngine dislikes AMD, but that's not accurate. I have no idea where the rumor came from. We're still working on the project, so nothing is final yet.

Checked reviews online and created a test myself using an Intel chip with graphics and an AMD APU that matched in power. The same game, engine from CryEngine, but the AMD APU struggled significantly.

270x is good. 960 is better IMO because the maxwell architecture allows higher overclocks at lower temps and power consumption. i would say wait for the 300 series but it looks likes going to be a rebadge of a rebadge (official graphics card of the show reboot lol). have you considered going the used route? you might find an r9 280(x) for around that pricepoint on ebay

The system utilized an Intel processor paired with an integrated graphics solution. The APU was connected to a separate video card for enhanced performance.

I’m not planning to boost anything on my PC. It runs smoothly enough at its current speed. Using a used one doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. I’d rather have a brand-new, verified machine instead of something that might be worn out. It’s better to be safe than risk it.

It's about locating something moderately underused, which is fine. If you don't plan to boost the 960 further, it still offers a slight improvement, though it often comes with a higher price. Ultimately, it depends on what you prefer.

Since APU has been optimized, it now handles Crysis games smoothly. Check out the game!
