I'm here to hear what others think, but it seems my Ryzen 9 3900X stopped working. I have a USB hub powered by USB-C connected loosely to the port on my motherboard, and it sometimes comes loose when I unplug things. Last night I unplugged a drive for my laptop, and as I reinserted it, the PC shut down and said it was shutting off to avoid overcharging or overcurrent. After it started up, I only heard fans spinning and the boot LEDs stayed on for the CPU. I replaced the CPU with another system and got it running again, but now the same PC is having the same problem—can't boot past the DRAM. I guess my old Ryzen 9 is probably dead. I thought sharing this would help, or at least let people know what happened. The whole thing really frustrated me, so I drilled the USB hub into the wall to keep it secure. If anyone has suggestions or ideas, let me know. Otherwise, it’s a shame my CPU failed, but I’m glad Black Friday is coming up!
It was a wild ride with a 3900x that crashed hard during the summer. I was just getting a VM running on my unRAID server when it froze completely. I never posted again after that. The return process was a real headache—they insisted on perfect IHS conditions, which took a while. Eventually, after some back-and-forth with AMD support and a bunch of edited photos, they finally handled the RMA. It paid off when they sent me a full retail box, so I ended up with a spare Wraith Cooler.
I didn't need to clear the CMOS for my Ryzen 5 to function. My other machine was working properly before I installed the Ryzen 9. I plan to swap it back tomorrow and reset the CMOS to check if there are any changes, though it seems like the CPU might be faulty.
I don’t know why I didn’t consider sending it back. It looks like I bought it from Amazon, but when I opened the box it says there’s a 3-year warranty attached to the serial number. I’m planning to try an RMA. The CPU seems fine—no bent pins—and the IHS is clean, so I hope they’ll accept it without issues.
