I'm excited about buying a Keychron K1 SE with optical switches and Hot Swap, but I need to check if these can be replaced with mechanical Gateron or Cherry MX later. How do we figure out if a switch works with a particular keyboard?

A straightforward response is affirmative. You may prefer to rely on the switch choices provided by Keychron, as it appears you are unfamiliar with custom or semi-custom keyboard setups.

Thank you for the link; however, it appears they are focusing on compatible optical switches. For my situation, I'm interested in whether a mechanical switch would work (as K1 SE offers both optical and mechanical options). I've just received confirmation from Keychron support that they are not compatible with each other.
