Changing bios without using the CPU
Changing bios without using the CPU
Im currently in the middle of a build and was waiting for Ryzen to release its 3000 series of chips. Now that they are released I want to buy a x470 board and Ryzen 7 3700x however the motherboard requires a bios update to recognize the new chip. I don't have 1000 or 2000 chip to update the bios with then switch to 3000 (Other than one from a pre built but I need to look at it which I cant do right now). Some of the x570 are a little pricey but I could buy one if I need to. What options do I have? In my personal opinion im probably best off buying a x570 instead of trying to get around updating bios without a cpu. Specs 1070Ti I5 4570 16gb ram Bare bones oem motherboard I pulled off a pre built office PC.
Certain motherboards support updates independently of the chip, featuring a physical button. Alternatively, AMD may provide a boot kit for installation. After updating, simply return it.
Crosshair VII and certain MSI systems with BIOS Flashback support are viable. Avoid Asrock, Gigabyte and other Asus models. Below is a compiled list of all AM4 boards; only those showing a checkmark in the BIOS Flashback section permit updates without a CPU.
If you decide to proceed, when the moment comes how would you obtain the boot kit?
